The Sattvic Diet
The sattvic diet is founded upon a daily diet of balanced food that makes us feel strong, light and energized, rather than full and sluggish, or over-energized and hyperactive. You can’t go far wrong by sticking with fresh, organic food – a mix of whole grains, beans, pulses, and a variety of vegetables. Meals eaten in these combinations will digest in roughly 3-4 hours, leaving the body energized and light, ready for yoga and meditation. Meat can take 3-4 days to move through the digestive system, so it is advised only rarely, as its digestion drains the body’s energy.
Try the sattvic diet for a month to see how it works for you. At breakfast time, eat porridge oats with some dried raisins and a sprinkle each of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, and some desiccated coconut. Experiment at lunch and dinner with salads, cooked vegetables, raw vegetables, and a combination of whole grains, pulses and beans.
See if you feel more balanced and energized. Notice if your body temperature is more regular and your sleep improves. Notice the improvement it makes to the quality of your yoga and meditation practice. Incorporating the sattvic diet into your daily routine could make a huge different to your productivity at work, and your connection to yourself and your loved ones in every other area of your life.
